One Day – A Poem About Love and Separation

One Day - Poem about Love and Separation by Sheo Rama

Editor’s Note

Love is universal, and separation invariably accompanies love. However, quite ironically, separation cannot separate itself from love. In the end, it is true love, that transcends the barriers of age, caste, creed and religion, that triumphs over time. In this poem, One Day, the poet Sheo Rama beautifully captures the timelessness and power of love. True love will triumph – one day!

A poem on Love and Separation – a backdrop

The poem is about the inevitable separation that some lovers have to undergo only to satisfy the “social ego” and “perception” of the different castes in our society. It also underlines the agony that true lovers face while being in a long-distance relationship.

The Poem – One Day

One day, you'll no longer be mine,
That day, the sun won't shine,
The songs won't rhyme,
There won't be a track of time.

I'll not wake up with your call,
Ah! my heart would be so small.
You'll be gone distances away dear
But I'll meet you, I'll meet you there.

Will you treat me same as you now do, love?
Will you hug me, kiss me and still catch on my nerve?
Coz then, you'll NOT be mine,
Kissing me, won't it be a crime?

But I'll meet you there love,
O Yes I'll do!
For I'll never stop loving you.

Distance, spaces, plots and mazes,
Couldn't keep us away through ages,
Why would the love then fade away,
How will I then just turn away?

You'll be my love today and forever,
NOT being mine? Eh, it'll happen never,
For I could not stop loving you,
Even if everything's anew.

So even though One day,
you'll no longer be mine,
the sun won't shine,
And the songs won't rhyme,
I'll love you my darling,
and I'll love you through time.
