Singing with a Bulbul
Editor’s Note: Song and Music
Music is like an open window which brings light to you heart and beauty to your soul. We sing when we are happy, we sing in sadness, we sing on our way back home and some of us love to sing in the bathroom too. We sing to share our emotions through this medium of expression and communication. Song and music are eternal and powerful, they have the ability to evoke emotions and heal like none other. Here is a beautiful poem by Vidisha Tripathi who is an aspiring Indian classical singer. She tells us about her little chirpy friend, a bird and how they accompany each other while singing. Let us get lost in the tune.
Singing with a Bulbul
“Sight of a Song Bird” expresses the ecstasy felt by an Indian classical singer while singing, on being accompanied by a chirpy little bird – Bulbul, who sings along!
Sight of a Song Bird
Early morning when the world is asleep, A soft breeze whispers in my ear, Registering the stillness in the room. Shush!! says the soft breeze. To break the awe as I pick my sitar, And begin playing music. The stillness makes its way out, And the room illuminates, As I sing the Alankara and the Ragas. People say magic doesn't exist, But, this moment manifests the enchantment. For, all the darkness is finally wrecked. Ah! What joy fills my heart, When I hear my bosom friend Bulbul, As she chirps and hums with me. Mesmerizing into a different world, Drowning in the magic of the moment, Soaking in the imperfectly perfect!
